How Webb Homeopathy came to be...

I recently realised that Webb Homeopathy has been 15 or even 20 years in the making. I just didn't know it.
Let me take you back to the beginning. On the 6th June 2006, I had my very first blood test after feeling extremely rough for two weeks. Initially I was diagnosed with tonsilitis and given a weeks course of antibiotics, but got progressively worse as time went on. I had never had tonsilitis before, and at age 17 was shocked I had escaped childhood with minimal illness having only visited my GP 3 or 4 times in my life. I was healthy- something I prided myself on. This was soon to all change. My blood test results confirmed my doctor's suspicions and I was diagnosed with glandular fever. I was nearing the end of my first year at college (hairdressing) and was bedridden for weeks, unable to eat for two weeks and plummeting to 6 stone in weight. Slowly I recovered and was able to begin my second year of college in September. I assumed I was over it and it would be a chapter of my life that had closed.
In 2009, I was working full time and had just turned 20 when I started to feel off again. I carried on working as best I could but May rolled round and I found myself bedridden again. This time I spent over 3 months in bed, sleeping for 20 hours a day. I was visiting my GP every 2 weeks for blood tests to work out what was wrong this time. They ruled everything out. As chronic illness warriors will know, blood test results are our nemesis- we can feel like death and our bloods are normal. It is extremely frustrating and disheartening. Luckily, my GP was incredible and sympathetic and I was so so lucky that he was in my corner. After months and months of tests, I was finally diagnosed with CFS/ME also known as chronic fatigue syndrome. He deduced that my nasty bout of glandular fever caused by the Epstein Barr virus had flared up and caused permanent damage to my immune system. The treatment? Zero. There is currently no cure and sufferers have to manage their symptoms by using energy sparingly and not overexerting themselves. Everyone is different, has different severities and different ways of managing their illness. I am luckily not too bad day to day but if I have to walk far or have a day out somewhere, boy do I pay for it the next day! I am lucky that over the last 10 years, I have been able to work less and rest when needed.
You may be thinking, blimey Nicola surely there's nothing else? Oh yes there is...
Just after my second child was born in 2021, I started to experience new symptoms including muscle weakness, limb numbness and chronic pain. Was this due to my ME or something more sinister? Back to the doctors I went. My GP had since retired so I was anxious about how I would be treated by my new younger doctor. I needn't have worried. I had lucked out again with an incredible doctor who listened and did a full consultation on me. He deduced my symptoms were caused by either Fibromyalgia or more concerning, Multiple Sclerosis. He referred me to the Neurology department at my local hospital for further tests. Cut an extremely long story short, I was eventually seen, given a brain and spine MRI and diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Functional Neurological Disorder. Fibromyalgia's classic symptom is chronic pain whilst FND is a brain disorder where the brain's structure is normal but the electrical signals it sends are muddled. The example they always give is comparing the brain to a computer- the hardware is fine but the software is glitching and not performing as it should. This can cause a huge array of symptoms and can severely disrupt your quality of life. As I have been chronically ill for over half my life, I can manage these symptoms pretty well but have days where I physically cannot get out of bed, feel my legs or move. You would never be able to tell how ill I am by looking at me so I usually get shocked reactions when people do find out! The cold weather usually makes it worse and I do tend to suffer badly during the winter. The warmth is a very welcome sight after months of feeling like I've been hit by a bus!
How does this all relate to holistic healing though?
Whilst I have been lucky to have had most of my healthcare professionals be sympathetic, they have all wanted to put me on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals to manage my symptoms- all with horrendous side effects which are just not for me. I had a period of time being on antidepressants where the side effects outweighed the benefits so I am reluctant to go back on long term drugs. This is all my own experience- pharmaceuticals can be incredibly helpful for a lot of people but I personally wanted to find another option. I began researching holistic options and settled on a daily dose of CBD which has helped manage my pain very well.
In early 2022, I decided I wanted to help other people with holistic options and began my search to find how I could make this a reality. I had just set up a spiritual business which was close to my heart and was anxious if i could run both side by side- turns out I can (The Witches Alcove is on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok if it's of any interest :) ).
As of April 2025, I have qualified in Advanced Homeopathy, Advanced Master Herbalism and Advanced Aromatherapy, earning Distinctions in all. I chose to specialise in the nervous system and immune system from personal experience, in the hope of showing how effective these disciplines can be. I am fully insured and accredited by The Complementary Medical Association. I am also qualified in low intensity CBT and life coaching which I earned way back in 2018 and 2019.
My goal is not to turn my back on modern medicine (my two children would not be here without it), but rather to show people there are gentler options to complement it. That is the goal of complementary medicine. Lots of pharmaceuticals are not safe long term, but there are other options that will help you manage your concern and hopefully show you just how powerful holistic healing can be.
If you got this far, thank you! My story is a long one and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. If you would like to include me on your journey to holistic healing, I would be honoured to join you.
